Well I just wanted to tell you guys that the relaxer didn't make my hair straight the only thing it did was, that it loosened my curl pattern. I removed the weave and I am going back natural. But I am going to let the front grow out slowly. So the relaxer had like a texlax effect. There is almost no difference between my natural hair and the relaxed hair. I don't know why my hair didn't get straight but I am happy it didn't.I am going to try to grow my hair out with the crown and glory method that I brought up earlier in my previous post. That means braids, braids and even more braids. But I am tired of constantly changing hairstyle. So I am giving my hair a rest. I will keep my hair braided and rebraid every 2 months. So wish meluck!!!!

Creamy crack

I had a moment of weakness and bought a relaxer. I had the relaxer sitting in my bathroom cabinet for a month, before I decided to use it. After watching youtube videos, I thought I had enough kwnoledge and skills to maintain my relaxed hair. So I went ahead and put a relaxer in my hair the front is now relaxed while the back is still natural. Why would you ask, would a person do something like that. I installed a weave in the back and left the front relaxed because i don't like the full sew-in look. Besides the afro was not flattering on me and I was fed up with the braiding styles.
I know this blog is called natural sisters and I am still contemplating about whether I should go back to natural or stay relaxed.Sighh I wish that I had stayed strong and kept it natural though because I liked the idea of having an afro.It makes you feel stronger and more secure but only if you're ready for it.

New growth

I have been away for a while. But I am back. I just wanted to post a blog about my new growth. Since I did the big chop my hair has grown tremendously. It is to a point where it seems like my hair grew 2 inches in 2 months. I know that is about average, but when I was transitioning I had about 2 inches new growth and at that point I was natural for almosta year. I was so disappointed I thought my hair didn't grew. But now I understand that it was because I didn't took care of my hair properly. For an example I would just rush the comb through my hair starting at the roots!!! . And when I had the new growth I would not moisturize my hair leaving it dry and brittle. I had severe breakage while transitioning even though I had the protective hairstyle like braids(which is only protective if you do it properly). Thanks to youtube I now understand the basics about natural hair. Although I don't always follow the ''rules'' in the exact way some natural sistas on youtube try to almost force them on their subscribers. Thank god that their are some helpful videos on youtube about natural hair and TWA's. I will keep thanking god for those videos. They helped me a lot through my journey. Although I sometimes have my moments of weakness, where I would just like to buy a relaxer and slap it on my head. O well just keep the natural vibe a live.

Did anyone say big chop!!!

Hey guys I've been away for a while but now I am back. The last month I saw a lot of videos on you tube about natural hair and moisturizing natural hair. So I decided to start my own healthy hair journey and I did the big chop. Unfortunately my camera broke down so I had to take pictures with my webcam camera. So the pictures are not really clear but I wanna let you know that I will start my journey today june 30th. My hair is in the front 6cm and at the back 3 cm. And I am curious about how long it will take me to grow my hair back healthy. I took out my braids and cut all the relaxer out my hair after that. I did kinda like a deep conditioning with the gel that I rubbed directly of an aloe vera plant on my head. In the next picture you can see me with my plastic cap on my head in another picture you can see the hair I cut of. I will make a regimen so that you can see what I will do with my hair on a daily and weekly base. I will also keep doing a weekly review on products although I do not intend to use a lot of products in my hair. I learned about protective hairstyles, deepconditioning, pre pooing, co-washes, moisturize and sealing. So I will have that coming soon. My sister and I who are both natural now will keep track of our hair growth and the healthiness of the hair I will use a braid regimen to grow my hair out. I got this regimen from the site www.growafrohairlong.com. It is an amazing site you can learn and read everything about growing you hair out with braids. so in the next few months I will keep you guys updated about everything that my sister and I are doing with our hair

Olive oil: Product review

In my last product review I told you about the shea butter spray. In this product review it's all about the natural oils. For now it wil be olive oil. I've tried olive oil and I am still using it so that is a good sign huh. I like the lightness of this oil it's not to heavy on your hair it smells well and it is affordable. I don't want to use to many products on my hair. Because I firmly believe that it's not the products that make your hair grow but the treatment. Although I am willing to try different products. Especially the natural stuff. I bought mine natural olive oil in the supermarket just around the corner. It's €5,- that's a nice price for me. I can use a bottle for 2 months so that's also easy. The olive oil makes your hair softer and gives your natural texture a really nice glow. I am not a huge fan of combing. I have really tight coils and my hair is prone to breakage especially when I comb. But the olive oil makes your hair easier to comb. And if you don't like to comb you can also fingercomb . Right now i dont't have to comb because I got a sew-in weave that is very itchy by the way.I might take it out this week. I don't know.

Ps: If you know any natural oils that is not to heavy on the hair please comment

Am I a fraud?

In my last post I told you about the box braids. Well I didn't take the braids. I got a very curly sew-in weave right now. My camera is broken so I can't post pictures yet. But I will post pictures soon. The thing that's bothering me is that I am still transitioning but the weave looks like my own hair. And I saw peeople looking at me like dang is that her own hair????!!! And I feel like a fraud right now. I have a question for all natural women. Do you sometimes wear weaves. And what kind of protective hair styles do you put in your hair. Is it mostly buns with your own hair. Or braids maybe wigs? I would also like to know what you think about women wearing weaves, because I've seen many films on you tube about women with fake hair. What do you guys think about this? Do you think women wearing weaves should be a non-issue?

New growth

I am sure some of you had this moment. That your hair was in braids for months and you thought you didn't had new growth. but when you wash it and blow dry your hair. Suddenly your like Heey I think i have some new growth. Well I had this moment. But unfortunately i had to cut some of my hair of because I still had some relaxers in it. I´m planning to rebraid my hair because I looked for several protective hairstyles including wigs, which I will never wear again because the fast, easy and stylish thing that they say about wigs doesn´t work for me. I have also thought about weaves. But everyone knows weaves can be itchy sometimes. And I have seen how some women look like when their weaves are not replaced in time. So I am having box braids again. I had marley braids in the past( Which didn't look nice on me anyway) cause the box braids where starting to bore me. But when i have my nice afro back. I will try the puffs and the braid/twist outs. And i can't wait till I can try the fro hawk. But for now it will be braids.

My first product review

Hello you guys. This is my first product review. Today it's all about the product of the week. A few weeks ago I purchased the Ic shea butter sheen spray. My hair was very dry and I was looking for a product that fitted in my regimen. So i decided to try the Ic shea butter sheen spray. And I am really liking it. It made my hair look and feel softer. I use it in the day when I get up and in the night before I wrap my head with a satin scarf. I can also appreciate the smell. Most shea butter products don´t smell nice but this product has a really nice smell. I live in Europe so I bought it for €5. But I think you guys in the states and maybe elsewhere can buy it for maybe a dollar or 4. So I would say buy!!!!!! Nice price, nice product and easy to use.

From braids to locks

I've braided my hair for two months now and it already looks like I got it dreadlocked for 7 years. I really really need to do a touch up. I was planning to have it in for 3 months(some of y'all might think ieuwh that's just plain nasty) but from the way thinks are looking I might take these braids out sooner, and besides don't tell me that braids didn't work for you when you wanted to get some new growth. I have no idea what protective hair styles I should use after this one.I am in a growth challenge. I gave myself two years to get my hair at armpitlength. Because right now I am really really neck length and I DO NOT LIKE ittttt!!!! I don't know if some of you girls(maybe boys but especially girls) recognise this feeling, but do you know the first time you got like your hair relaxed and it was all smooth and silky and then you start getting lazy you wouldn't do co-washes anymore and didn't use moisturizers everyday, no more hot oil treatments and slowly but sure your hair would start falling out one by one, sometimes even strand by strand. And at one point you decided'' you know what I am going to stop the breakage'' and then you run off to the store to buy all kind of products that promise things they can't actually do. So after six months there is like almost no hair on(in this case mine) your head.

And I have a big head so I can't rock like short hair cuts a la Rihanna or Halle Berry. So for the girls with my problem you know that a protective hairstyle like braids or a sew in weave can be a release.

Ps:I decided to do a product review every week I wanna ask you to join my in this challenge. Let's try new products for ourself it might help others.

Pps:If anyone has a hot protective hairstyle please share it with your fellow sister

Why is afro always considered funky/revolutionairy?

A few weeks ago I was watching Chris Rock's new movie Good hair. And their was a woman of african american origine stating that you can't wear a suit and have an afro at the same time.
I can't believe people are saying these things in 2009.Especially african american women. I think the problem with relaxers is not only this advertising world we live in, But it is also our own people that comment you when you're wearing your hair natural. How come when people see you with an afro your suddenly a funky diva or revolutionary sister?I mean it is just my hair that is the way it grows out of my head. Why can other people wear their hair the way it was when they were born while I have to live up to other people's expectations? I think black people should love their hair instead of criticising each other. I mean i am not anti-relaxing but, I think that african american women that relax their hair should not comment women with natural hair. And vice versa. Some people have their hair the way they have it period.

Shea butter= the best natural moisturizer?

The last days I have tried to find a moisturizer to maintain my natural hair. Because my mum tried so many differents hair products I have no idea what works best for me. So i've decided to try some natural products that keeps the hair moisturized. In my search I found Shea butter. on many forums and blogs I read about the natural strength of shea butter. So I decided to purchase my own at the african food store just around the corner. Well I tried it and the first signs of this product are not so well. I don't like at all. It really really smells. Besides that It doesn't really keeps my hair mosturized at all. So maybe I bought the wrong one. After some more research. I found out that there are different kinds of shea butter. So I am going to buy the one without smell. I hope it works. I'ill keep yáll posted. Maybe I will get some new growth.
Ps: I still want my afro back

I want my afro back !!!!

Since childhood about the age of thirteen we start relaxing our hair.
